Hey guys,
I acquired an axolotl recently that caught me eye regarding his colour. I purchased 8 other axls from a hobbyist, all of which I can identify...this one I can't.
He was part of an albino and leucistic batch...Basin was way overcrowded hence the missing limbs. He is completely white; skin, eyes, gills and all. My question is, is he sick? Or is it a colour I just have never read up on?

He is probably a leucistic albino, but his gills should be pink at least some of the time. Does he always look that way?

He looks like an albino (I dont believe he is leucistic though) but he looks like he could be anemic? He looks unwell to me. Is he eating and acting normally?

I found him passed away at the bottom of the tank this morning. I had a feeling that with the lack of color in his gills that something may have been up. :(

Very sorry to hear the sad news he has passed away. :(

Yes, I am sorry to hear that. I agree with Elise, he did look anemic.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
