I have kept both firebelly toads and firebelly newts (separately of course). Currently I have 2 FBTs. They are about 10 yrs old now. I originally had 5, but lost 3 within the past couple of years. I even had them spawn once about 4 yrs ago. I ended up with over 50 toad lets (all rehomed) my first amphibian was a firebelly newt I named Al. That was about 20 years ago. I had no clue how to care for him properly, but he survived for about 5 years until we had water problems at our apartment complex and he perished. RIP Al. I have learned a lot over the years and had other FBNs Since Al. I would love to have them again, but they are hard to find. Hopefully, I can buy some from this forum in the near future. I also have a 55 gallon aquarium, a hamster and a 14 yr old Pomeranian.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
