I'lol be getting a new axolotl next week.
I already have two in my current tank and was told I should quarantine the new one before introducing him.
He's coming from another home, not a pet store, is quarantine really necessary?
If so, for how long? And how do I quarantine him? The fridge?

Please email me or message me here thank you!

Have you a small tank that you could keep him in for 10 days or so?Just do frequent water changes and no need to fridge. This is how I do things...just watch for agression when you introduce the newbie into main tank...I have only witnessed it once and had to act quickly to scoop out the newcomer......who now lives with a new "friend"....
The big guy in the established tank was the aggressor.....In spite of already sharing peacefully with another male!

I do have a separate 10 gallon I can house him inside.
How long should quarantine last though?

30 days is generally the bare minimum

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
