I know I have seen a post on here insinuating that tigers are social, and enjoy tank mates. I'm curious before I dive into finding my little dude a friend... Do the subspecies have to be the same? Is it a bad call to house an eastern with a grey, or a blotched? And will size be an issue? My guy is 9 1/2" and I've recently seen a tempting specimen that is probably only 4-5"

I'm not sure about the mixed subspecies...

I have read and have had people tell me as well, that tigers get along quite nicely with tank mates and plan on getting my guy a friend or two this spring. :D

However, I have also read that tiger appetites can sometimes get the best of them and they eat smaller tank mates.

That's just from one source though. I'd definitely wait to see what more experienced owners and breeders have to say. :)

Good luck!

You would have to wait until the other tiger grows to introduce, even though when they are the same size it would be fine, tiger salamanders are cannibalistic on things they can over power

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
