I was at the pet store and this woman told me I could probably put a newt in with my axolotls. They are both full grown. She suggested a fire belly newt. I think it would just become food? I mean I feed my axies worms the length of the newt she showed me. Anyone have any ideas?

btw im not asking cause I want to do it. I think its more bs from a store person who doesn't know. Their axis are teeny compared to mine.

I think you're right about it becoming a snack. An Axolotl will try to eat pretty much anything that fits in its mouth.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
