Hi all,
I am planning on moving my 3 juvenile axolotls into a new tank shortly. However, their new tank has been previously used to house fish, and unfortunately those fish have been treated for ich using malachite green. Obviously the fish will be removed by that time, but I was planning on using some of the same ornaments as well as the tank itself to house my axies. Would there be enough trace malachite green to harm them? I have done a few 100% water changes since then so the malachite green is removed from the water, however I have not cleaned out the tank itself. Do I need to worry about this? And if so, would removing everything and giving it a thorough clean be enough to remedy it, or do I need to purchase a whole new tank for them?

If you give everything a good scrub it should be fine - including the tank.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
