It snowed baby Axies last night. This is her 3rd clutch. I have tried with out success to raise the first 2 batches. The 2nd batch lived to about 5 weeks, then started to die. I was feeding them Eel micros and then bbs when they were a little older. I kept the water temp. cool and changed water every day. I do not want to loose this batch too. Any suggestions that you can give to help me. I have read and researched the articles here as well, but, am still nervous, Thanks for any advice.

That food is not substantial enough. Start with maybe 10 babies and try to raise them first. That way you can get a feel for feeding them. Feed baby brine as a starter food, then add in chopped blackworms or chopped bloodworms. They should grow really rapidly and eat quite a bit. Mine are able to take whole blackworms by about a month old.

    with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

    Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

    Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
