Whats up everyone, glad to finally be a member here. I'm from Chicago where we don't get a ton of cool herps but amphibians/reptiles are still my passion and I do lots of research on them. I'll be getting two paddle tail(pachytriton labiatus) newts in a few days and will probably ask a few questions. Don't worry tho, I've done plenty of research on those little guys before ordering. I'll be posting a pic of my aquarium setup soon. Once again, excited to be part of the community now and hope to learn lots.

Hi, welcome to the forum!
Good luck with the pachytriton, there are still many unanswered questions about their life cycle and raising babies to maturity in captivity hasn't happened yet as far as I can tell.

Cool thread Chinadog, I've been pretty curious about juvenile P Labiatus and their lifecycle in general. Yeah, I've been sweating with research and can barely find any info about their lifecycle. Hopefully scientists will be able to get deeper into research about them.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
