Hi! I just bought my first Axolotl a few weeks ago. I saw them at my local reptile show several months ago, but wasn't able to haul a 10 gal fish tank and supplies back home on the bus. I finally found a local breeder who sells a complete package and delivers, so here I am!

I have a wild type GFP juvie, don't know the sex yet so I"m calling it "her" for now. She seems to be doing well, though I do have a few questions which I'll post separately. I have a lot of experience keeping fish and reptiles but none with amphibians until now.

I'm looking forward to learning how to look after my new axie, and reading about other people's pets!

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
