Hi everyone,

I am a quite new amphibian raiser from Paris, France. I have been keeping newts for two years. I started with two cynops pyrrhogaster, and they reproduced twice since I have had them. I also have had an axolotl for a while, but then replaced it with a couple of neuregus crocatus and tylototriton shanjing (not in the same tank, obviously ^^). By the way, I would love to expand my shanjing group, so in anyone knows about some for sale in Europe, do not hesitate to tell me :)

I have been on the French specialists forum for over a year now, and I have decided to go international to further explore the fascinating world of newts!

Yeah, you never know for sure with c. pyrrhogaster, there might be hybridations, etc. But the white dots on the female's belly are very caracteristic of sasayamae locality.. I have also read that sasayamae males tend to put their back leg on the neck of the female when waving their tail during parades, which other c. pyrhogaster localities do not do..

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
