I have raised veiled chameleons and blue tongue skinks in the past but was recently given the chance to raise 2 salamanders. My friend continuously scoops them out of her pool filter and releases them only to have them back the next day. They are still small, definitely mole salamanders. Either Tiger or Spotted from southern WI. I'll post again on another area and hopefully be able to get them ID'd. In the meantime I am enjoying reading here and learning so much.

Welcome to the forum! I saw the pic you posted. Could you maybe post a few more, from the side and the head? The eyes often help identify tiger sals, they way they stick up. And maybe we could get a better idea of their size. Anyway, thank you!

I will try. I'm trying to let them get comfortable in their new surroundings first before I disturb them too much.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
