Hey! I look forward to being part of this website and learning as much as I can from everyone.
First off I thought it would be good to have a proper introduction to my axies.

Berty: I got her earlier this year, she was the last of her group in the fish shop and had been there for 8 months on her own in a very small tank and was a week away from being sent back to the breeder who said he didn't have room for her but would find a 'use' for her. She was extremely over weight and still is but has lost abit since I got her.
She never really has had any gill fluff but its always been black gill fluff which worries me but she eats properly, her tank is fully cycled and at very low levels on all the amonia, nitrate and nitrite and she lives on her own. She has fine sand substrate and is very active when its dark. She's very friendly and will get excited when I come to the tank when I get home!

I got new additions to our family, I got baby axies, not sure how old they are so maybe someone can help! They aren't in the same tank as Berty as she's so much bigger and will eat them. My partner has named them Taco and Burrito.. Though I wanted Quagsire and Mudkip.. They have a smaller tank for now and have the same as Berty on the water quality front and is cycled with fine sand. Both tanks are at 18-20C. The new ones haven't eaten yet but I will try them with pellets and earthworms when I get some smaller ones. Pictures are in order of Berty, Taco then Burrito.
I'm looking forward to making new friends!

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
