There does not seem a specific thread on this so thought I would start one.

It would be good to get a good look at all the different types of axolotl there are out there so post images of your axolotl and what country your located in as some colors are regional.

Wow, is he a dwarf or is it just the angle of the picture? Super cute axolotl. Never saw such a yellow leucistic.

Nah, she's normal- just a weird angle (she was sitting up begging for food), but it was the best to show her color. I always assumed she was more yellow because of the GFP? She's almost like a black-eyed golden.

That's what I would call her! Definitely a special little creature.

I am in kent and currently have:

1 jet black.
5 leucistic
3 goldens
2 dark wild types
2 greenish wild types.

All are from, or were eggs from ,various parts of uk.

I have raised, and moved on many leucistics within the local area.
When I see them for sale.....garden centres, aquatic centres etc there seems to be a dominance of wilds......perhaps the others just sell first!
.......and I always end up with the poorly looking one with missing legs, no gills etc!!

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
