Hi, I just got my very first axolotl today, I'm so excited. I always thought they were so meet looking. I did a lot of research before I bought him, he is a juvenile (albino). If anyone has any tips for care on them I would greatly appreciate it. Also should I feed him once a day and when giving him blood worms or brine shrimp that are the frozen cube one's should I give a whole cube or just half? I just want to make sure I'm caring for him the best that I can. I would add a pic, but I don't no how

Welcome to the forum! Take a look at the axolotl threads, I'm sure you find most answers there and if not, you can send a question there :)

Hi Teresa and welcome,
This site really does seem to have all the answers.

I only adopted my first axie earlier this year. I have two adults and are now raising several babies. I find that each Axie can have different appetites at different times but essentially they will tell you how hungry they are.

If you use half a cube and it all goes quickly then try a little more. If you use a whole cube and find lots of it untouched, try less. One of my adults, stares me down if she is hungry (just sits in her tank and looks directly at me).

Have fun working out the individual personality of your new friend.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
