Hey friends,

Just had a look at the young albino I rescued a couple months ago. She's grown, put on weight and shows all signs of health.

Just this evening I noticed a large tear along her fin and white mucusy clumps attached to one gill frond.

Her gills also appear slightly shrunken and pale. They're normally fluffy and vibrant.

Is this an injury or sign of illness? I have two other Lotls in the tank who are not showing anything unusual.

Here's a photo of her just a few days ago. She looks lovely aside from a bump on her mouth, acquired by snapping at my feeding tongs.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
