Please help! My abult male axie suddenly developed a very swolen cloaca. So much so that sometimes his back feet don't touch the ground. I've read that this can be a sign of constipation, but he just pooped the night before it happened. If anyone has any idea what's happening or what I should do please let me know. I love my boy very dearly and would be deviated if I were to lose him :(

Re: Very swolen cloaca!

It would be best if you could send us in some pictures so we can determine the problem

Re: Very swolen cloaca!

I figured that would be best. It seems to be most swolen early in the morning, I'll see if I can get a good pic tomorrow morning.

Re: Very swolen cloaca!

Ok well, last night I did a water change and, voila, no swollen cloaca this morning. Is there anything that could have been in the water that would have caused his cloaca to swell?

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
