So my 2 Axies have just matured and it looks like I might get some babies in the near future. Was wondering if plastic or silk plants would be better, for attaching eggs and for safety(I've heard plastic plants can rip fins and cut delicate skin). Thanks!

use the egeria densa ;)
Its easy, real, cleaner and cheaper than fake plants (my newt lay eggs on that plant)

I'm sorry, I forgot to mention I don't want to use live plants as Axolotls don't have eyelids and plants require extra lighting. Also, I tried using live plants before and it didn't go so well. Thanks for the suggestion though!

The plant mentioned grows very well under low light and axie friendly temperatures, it is widely know to be a great plant for many amphibians.

But if you don't want to use live plants, than i would think silk would be better than plastic...though axolotls will lay their eggs on just about anything anyway, so i am not sure it matters to them all that much.
If you are concerned about plastic plants, though, then silk plants should be just fine.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
