Should I burp my Axi?

Hi all,
I have an Axi that gets stressed when she is hungry and gulps a lot of air and ends up floating. I try to feed her bloodworm cubes twice a day, but sometimes only get once a day. I have been recently lifting her out of the water for about 30 seconds before feeding her and she opens her mouth and lets out air. When she goes back in the water she no longer floats and is able to eat okay. When I put feeder fish in the tank, she and her tank mate eat them up quickly and she doesn't float.
Is there any reason I shouldn't "burp" her and how can I get her to chill out? She is the hyper one to the point that she often misses food on the first and second try because she is so eager. Her tank mate is chilled and very easy to feed.

Ummm

Im not an expert by any means, and although Axolotls are technically amphibians - I don't think they should ever be removed from water. What you're doing probably isn't helping that much, and removing an axolotl from water (Which would be like holding you underwater for 30s) is probably more stressful. I'd stop doing it.

If the axolotl is floating by choice its not necessarily a problem, axolotls can regulate their position in the water column by gulping air. You should consider changing the axolotls diet , fish and bloodworm are not as good as eartworms.

Some axolotls just gulp air and float for fun. From what I've experienced with my Axie, and what I've heard from the lab where he was raised, some just like doing it. If she can sink again, there shouldn't be anything wrong. If she floats uncontrollably or is lopsided, something may be up, but it sounds like your axie is just playing around.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
