Hello everyone!
I currently have two axolotls, Nelly and Lotti. Though we very recently discovered that Lotti is in fact, not a female so he will have to be renamed soon. I have had my axolotls for about a year and whenever I had a question about them, surfing the web I always ended up on this site. When my axolotls decided to surprise me with about 100 babies I decided it was time that I joined the forum to make sure I give them the best care. I am currently a student at Chatham University where I am majoring in Biology. I have always loved animals and when I discovered axolotls last year I had to have one. Axolotls fascinate me and I love showing off my unique pet to friends. I am sure that I will have a million questions so I wanted to thank everyone in advance for their help! Please ask me any questions you have.
Thanks!

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
