Hey everyone ! Just wanted to update on the newts. I went to walmart and purchased some red wrigglers chopped em up in 4ths and fed the newts a decent size chunk each. I attempted to feed more but was rejected. Earlier in the day i attempted to feed brine shrimp that i let dissolve from my fingers into a dish at the bottom of the tank. I put the little guys in the dish with the shrimp but other than a little mouth movement from one of the newts it wasnt successful. No matter, i am glad to see them eating the worms. I plan to start a small worm colony and see if i can beef the little monsters up ! I also added a good variety of plants to the tank which they seem to appreciate. Temps range from 68 - 72. Unfortunately i cannot control the heater in my apartment. I will post pictures of the solution i have came up with and the tank. As well as my API test results which are good but can be better.

I plan to freeze this and drop one or two in the tank. They are candles that i clean out and filled with treated water.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
