Hi, I'm Irrlich.

I signed up specifically so that I could ask some questions about keeping my "new" axolotls. You can see that thread here.

I'm currently 28 and have been keeping freshwater fish since I was around 10 years old. You can find my (currently inactive) blog dedicated to fish here : Land of Water and Aquaria

I try to buy plants and fish from local breeders as much as I can, which is how I got my two axolotls; Axel and Lotte. They hitch-hiked as eggs on some plants I bought. Both eggs hatched on 12 march 2015 and though I had my doubts about keeping them at first my boyfriend and I have become completely enamoured with these silly creatures.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
