I'm Lindsey....just outside of Portland, OR.

I got my first two axolotls the beginning of October. That makes them maybe around 5-6 months old. They are both leucies. (one is a little more yellow, with peach gills)

Ryujin has grown a lot, and the more yellowish one, Katamari, has hardly grown at all, but has gotten more freckles. Katamari is so sweet, and loves to come to the glass and say hi...and also likes to eat from my pipette when I feed them. Ryujin is feisty and very active.

They are so cute, and a lot of fun to have. Friends love to see them as well. (Even my Dad now wants some) I can't wait to see who's a boy and who's a girl.

Katamari is quite photogenic, so I'm posting photos of he/she.

Thank you! This site has helped a great deal, so I finally joined.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
