Hello, i am currently owning only one rough skinned newt and i breed Betta and Guppy fish along with having some Goldfish and Cichlid fish, but i use to breed tree and leopard frogs and use to do socializing training with amphibian and reptile species. I hope to get a Leopard Gecko some time.
First of all, i have two questions, my Newt will only eat chopped up earthworms, he wont even eat crickets, but i have noticed he is losing some weight and i know with fish you can put garlic on their food to get rid of any internal parasites, and i was wondering if i can also do that with my Newt.
Second, my Newt is seeming to slow down, and i am wondering does this breed of Newt tend to hibernate? If so what do i do to prepare him for hibernating.
Any other tips about his breed are welcome, i am more familiar with Gecko's and reptiles and fish than Newts.
Thank you,
Cat

Worms are a perfect food for newts, so maybe try feeding him more. I have never heard of the garlic thing.
Newts can slow down when the weather cools.
Good luck with him!

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
