Five months ago I bred my regular two Leucuistics and out of the 30 eggs I kept there was five white eggs rather than the black ones I usually got. I kept the five eggs and my surprise was they were colored axolotls. Here they are at 5 months old can you tell me what color they are. I am color blind so cannot determine 100% what they are.
plus has anyone else got colored axolotls from leucistic parents? this is the 5th time they been bred and always lecusistic babies.

Do you have the history of the parents?

There is a condition called vitiligo that causes wildtypes and melanoids to lose their pigment, ending up looking like leucistics. It is possible one of the parents has this condition.

This means they will produce mixed colour babies.

If you can post pictures of the parents it would help.

the parents are both leucistics and had them since eggs they are both 6 years old, and each time they laid leucuistcs. this is first time they laid wild eggs

I assume no other axolotls were in the tank with them, correct?

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
