Hello everyone! I'm from NC and I'm here basically because of my daughter. She has the Animal Crossing video game that has an Axolotl as a character that she just loves. She pulled up a picture of what they really look like, and well, it was love at first sight.

We haven't actually purchased one yet, as it's been just research, research, research trying to figure out what we need, where he/she will go, etc. I stumbled across these forums while on a Google search and was shocked to find such a large community-considering I had never even heard of an Axolotl until the other day.

Anyway, I look forward to getting to know you all. I'll try not to ask too many newbie questions, but I'm sure there will be some.

Happy New Year everyone!

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
