Hi guys & girls,

New member here from NSW Australia. I've recently become interested in setting up a fish tank with an Axolotl and while researching I came across this forum and decided to join up.

I had Axolotls when I was young but didn't have much to do with caring for them other than just feeding so I've spent a fair bit of time reading about their needs and nearly ready to go ahead now.

I recently purchased a 70 litre tank which I'll use to house one axolotl. Now just have to get set up with a filter, sand and some hides and start the cycling process before I purchase my new pet.

I'll post back when I get the gear together and set up the tank.

Cheers,

Baldrick

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
