As a newt newbie, I see so many axolotls for sale, large, small, eggs etc. in the USA. What is happening to all of these axolotls? If I decide to try them, what do I do with the fry? Do I give them away, sell them for less than the shipping costs, bring them to my local tropical fish store etc.( I have never seen them in a pet shop) It seems there is certainly any oversupply of available axolotls but are there enough keepers around in the US to absorb that supply? I don't want to be "stuck" with lots of fry I have to euthanize. I also thought axolotl eggs might be a great science project for my home schooled grand kids, but again, what do they do with the extras that have matured? Would love to hear from someone who has been keeping them in the USA for a while.
THANKS
JACK

Some of them get culled, a lot get raised and sold. There's plenty of people willing to buy axolotls, but sadly a lot of the time it's people who have no idea what they're doing and don't realize that it's a little bit different than keeping fish.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
