I just wanted to say Hello to everyone out there on this site! I have been a member on the site since August 31st, 2010, but I must admit this is the first time I have ever posted anything. I generally just look around and do research so I will know everything I can for the day I bring a new baby Axolotl home. I have learned a lot from this site and I thank everyone for the time you have put in to help newbies like myself. *smiles*

Hey Lconrad! I'm right below you :) South Carolina! Should be breeding axolotls within the year! Shipping to you would be uber cheap. What kind of Caudata do you have? Considering you have been a member since 2010 you must have some newts or salamanders!

Hello Killian J!

As of right now the only pets I have are 3 huge lapdogs and a guinea pig! :) I am working on getting a Daphnia culture going in the next week or so and then trying to get some Axolotl eggs to hatch and raise. I want to have everything set up perfect before I bring the little ones home :)

Great idea! Tell me how that culture goes! Been wanting to do it myself for when I get some eggs! Would love to know how difficult it is ?

Hi Lisa, nice to meet you. I spent a lot of time on this forum as a guest before getting my axolotls, and only recently joined.

Hello Donna! Nice to meet you as well. A while back, my daughter was wanting an Axolotl and that's why I originally joined this site. Things didn't work out about getting a baby at that time, but hopefully soon we will have a baby or two here :)

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
