Hello, I am a first time Chinese fire belly newt carer. I've had my two darlings for around 5 months now and they appear to be happy and healthy but I am concerned about their diet and if they are eating properly. I have a small log where I deposit either dried shrimp and dried FD blood worms where I have seen them (rarely) go to eat from. They haven't gotten skinnier or changed colour or shown any signs of stress but because I am a first time owner I'm still quite nervous. The male will eat live worms but the female tends to struggle as her mouth is quite small (they are both very young).

Is there anything I can order or do to entice them to eat more regularly or am I being paranoid? Any help or tips are greatly appreciated! :)

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
