Hi everyone! ?
I have a bit of a weird question about the ceramic rings that came with my Top Fin internal 40 gallon filter!
It came with a plastic bag of ceramic rings inside one of the chambers, and I wasn't sure if I was supposed to remove them from the plastic bag or not so I left it alone.
However, I just looked it up tonight out of curiosity and some people are saying that they should be in a MESH bag and if so to leave them in it. However, the bag mine are in is definitely plastic and it kind of looks like bacteria is starting to grow on the plastic itself but not on the rings.
What do you guys think? :) Should I remove the rings from the plastic bag or just leave it alone?

I definitely recommend taking them out of the plastic bag, seeing as the rings serve no purpose sealed inside a non-porous bag.

In most filters you don't even need a mesh bag as long as they are on top of something they won't go through. Do remember to rinse them thoroughly after taking them out of the plastic bag, you don't want the ceramic dust in your water.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
