Question: Snails

I know there has been quite a few questions asked about snails on here but none of them are really clear.
Has anyone purposely put any snails in their aquarium to help with waste and dead pockets in the sand?

I'm finding it difficult to keep the sand clean and am considering adding Malaysian trumpet snails but not sure if this is the best idea for an axolotl tank...

It's hard to tell if they're useful with some people saying they have no problem with them or if they're pests and I'll have hundreds of them, they'll get into my filter and I'll be stuck with them forever etc.

I fear that the axolotl poo will give them too much to eat and I'll end up with too many but the idea that they'll help keep my tank clean at night is a nice one.

I almost had them hitchhike on plants when I had my tank planted in the past but I was very vigilant and managed to collect them all because I could only imagine how they'd cause too many problems.

What's your opinion and if possible have you had personal experiences with snails and axolotls?

I keep one snail per species of snail and not have to worry about them reproducing

In my experience most snails don't eat poop, unless Axolotl digestive systems are just that inefficient? As long as you don't overfeed you should be fine, so they actually serve as a good indicator if you're putting too much food in the tank.

With how cold Axolotl water is the more popular species would have trouble reproducing anyway.
