This might sound dumb but I'm still going to ask. I have a double sponge air filter with telescoping air outlet. When i pull the telescope over water level. Water pours out like waterfall. Can i make a waterfall out of this. Or does the air outlet need to be under water to work properly.

Yes, I use those filters in some of my tanks and you can make quite nice gentle waterfalls with the outlet. Basically, as long as there's water trickling out of the outlet, the filter is doing it's job. I've set mine up in the past so they trickle through the moss on bits of floating cork etc, it's also a good way of diffusing the current that many aquatic newts hate so much.

Thank you. That's pretty much what i wanted to do.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
