I'm guessing freckles in a leucistic are slightly influenced by its environment. What do you guys think?

I had my leucistic on black sand for 6 months-she had freckles on her face
I then put her in a tank with bare glass bottom for 4 months and the freckles seem to have all disappeared from her face
I then put her back into a black sand tank and now her gills had gotten darker like a blueish color within 4 months.

Has anyone else experimented with this? Or is this just a series of coincidences?

I noticed that my axolotl colours would vary slightly depending on the environment they are kept in. Some larvae of other species will also change their colour slightly if they are on dark or light substrate.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
