Hi guys,
I have had my axolotls for a couple of months now, which i purchased at a local pet store. I was told when purchasing them, that they were all girls, and were about 18 months old. I've been watching my goldie, in particular, and I'm seeing some changes! I think perhaps Autumn Rae, may just be a Ray! I am also questioning the other two, and their ages. Any help would be awesome!

Thanks, Chris ?
The goldie seems to be growing in that area, which is what has made me question their gender. Can the females cloaca, change? Can you see the difference here, or am i imagining it? Thanks for your help ?

Could just be the angle or picture quality. Hard to say. Some Axolotls will appear to be girls but they may mature slightly later so then the cloaca changes at which point you know they are male. You'll just have to keep an eye on it

The Goldie looks like male, only time will tell. I have no idea at what age it will tell though.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
