Hi,

I've been on this site for a long time as I have been planning to get axies for years, I have read a lot here but haven't posted before. I have just bought my first eggs after my 20 gallon tank became empty, RIP Myrtle the razorback musk turtle :(

I have 19 eggs in a 3.5l plastic box at the moment at about 18 degrees, I don't know if they're all going to hatch or how long it will take from now. Some of them are still round and a couple are a bit cloudy so not sure if they are viable. One is almost fully formed, I got a nice close up of it (it's the long one at the bottom right on the other pic). I'm sure I will have lots of questions as they grow so please be patient with me

Hi djp81 and welcome to the forum.
Sorry to hear about Myrtle, razorback musk turtles are great. I haven't had one, but I always stop by their tank at the LFS whenever I visit.
Best of luck with your eggs, great to see the one in the second picture forming, and please keep us posted on progress (with lots of pictures). :D

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
