I am new to caudata :) I discovered this website when I began taking care of my new salamander larvae. I've raised tadpoles before but never a carnivorous species. It should be a fun journey.

I live in southern Ohio, and I believe I found my self a two lined salamander larvae. I have a little tank he is currently in with an air bubbler since I found him in a stream originally. He is very happy. He eats daphnia as a snack and I give him bloodworms when he comes out from under his rock to hunt. :D

So far it is a lot of fun! And I am happy to be a part of this forum.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
