Hello everyone
I have a 3 month old axolotl, he measures 13 cms, hes a gold albino, and up until 3 days ago he pretty much stopped eating. I dont have water parameters right now but im going tomorrow morning to the pet store with a sample of the tank water for them to measure ammonia, PH, nitrites and nitrates. Im pretty sure the water quality is fine, he lives with another smaller axie which is eating just fine and acting normal. The both live in a 35 gallon tank, water temperature is a constant 20C (68F), they both eat live earthworms and salamander pellets, daily. My albino axie who now seems to be sick, used to eat EVERYTHING that i would put in front of him, he always had a ferocious appetite, he was always hungry and looking for food and definitely loved earth worms, but he stopped eating them 3 days ago, he would take a bite and them spit them out. I tried with pellets which he now would eat one or two a day, which is incredible since he was such a ferocious eater. Today i noticed his poop is a lighter brown coloration and is not as firm as it used to be, he used to poop really dark brown balls, but now it looks more diluted and not as firm. Im really worried hes sick or something, the smaller axie is eating just fine tho. He used to be very active swimming around the tank, but now he just seems to be sitting on the bottom of the tank for long hours before moving. Tomorrow i will post water parameters. Im attaching a picture of him a week ago vs how he looks now, you can see hes a lot paler, his gills used to be bright red and are now losing coloration. Please help! what should i do? :(

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
