I am new to Axolotls and been doing much research on them. I have been trying to find buyers to get some purples or coppers from. Around here no one sells them and everyone knows very little about them. I have already found where to get live black worms from and I am starting a organic compost to have healthy worms for them too. I have tanks setup with double corner filters and some slate and large round river rocks for the bottom. I was going to use a sand bottom, but heard too much negativity on that. I also made tunnels for them to hide in if they want, then plants and driftwood. I have had fish for many years, but have always been interested and wanted Axolotls. I just think they are so wild looking and seem like a little dog in the water. If any one out there know of anyone you can trust to buy from, please let me know. Thanks everyone out there!

There is a place called underground reptiles in Deerfield Florida that sells axolotls , I recently bought one from them and he's doing well ( his name is Juan ) however their stock is always changing and the only ones that are ever left by the time I get to look at them are the leusistics they're gorgeous axies but from what I saw yesterday they're small , roughly two or three inches so they need lots of care , if you're lucky you might find a Melanoid and if you get there before they sell out an albino or a wild type , that's the only place I know for sure that sells them , good luck

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
