I have a massive problem. I recently moved out from my parents and moved 500 miles away!
Anyway I am going back later this month and am thinking of picking my Axolotl up and bringing up with me. Here´s where my problem is. What is the best method for transporting my Axolotl long distance (tub or bag) in a single trip.
Another problem is will my axolotl get along with the 2 fish. The tank will have gravel removed (obviously) but will my Axolotl who has lived most of his life alone attack the fish. They are too big for it to eat but are not too big for it to have a go. Is it worth trying it out and seeing how it goes?

Hi Jake,
The longest journey any of my axolotls have been on is just over an hour. They were in a plastic bag, in a polystyrene box. The box was in the front seat with the seat belt around it, just to be on the safe side. Perhaps one of the breeders who has experience of shipping axolotls could give you some idea of the best way to prepare your axolotl for a long journey. I would have thought that as long as he has enough air then he should be ok for the journey, but best to check with someone who has dealt with this sort of thing previously.
As for mixing fish with axolotls, the general rule is a resounding "no" I'm afraid. Even if the fish are too big to eat, the axolotl gills may be very tempting for the fish to nibble on.

No fish in an axie tank, no axies in a fish tank.
You need to get s big fish bag (you can get them from ebay) fill it 1/3 full of fresh treated water with your axie in and tie the top off. Put the bag in cool bag with a couple of ice packs wrapped in tea towels - I use a big hard sided picnic cooler.
I have taken axies on a day trip from Kent to Birmingham like this with no problems.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
