I have just joined this forum today & am very excited but what I've seen & read so far. :p My name is Kayla, & I am from Fargo, ND. I am interested in axolotls & plan to purchase 2 this month, but am doing all of my research & making sure that my tank is safe before I do so. I look forward to being a part of the Caudata community! Thanks!

Hi & welcome to the forum! I think you find all you need here and if not, ask on the axolotl section, it seems very active. Here are also very good breeders who sell their home raised young axies, you might find one in the For sale topic :)

Hello Kayla and welcome to the forum.
It's great to see that you are doing your research before purchasing your axolotls. I spent a lot of time on the forum as a guest before purchasing mine, and found the information very useful.
We would also love to see pictures of your axolotls when you get them.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
