Hey, Just wondering if I buy a chiller, do I need a canister filter for it? They are a bit pricey and I would like to use a sponge filter for it. Does that work? :)

Cannisters work best, but you can have a chiller independent of any filtration system. It would need a pump though, hence why cannister are often used with a chiller.

It's currently a 10gal.
I am thinking of buying a chiller so I can switch to a 20gal tank. I calculated it and my chiller size only needs to be .01 to change the temperature from 76 to 60. However, the smallest chiller size is .1. Any ideas? Will it be too cold?

You can use an in tank pump with a sponge filter on it. You don't need a canister filter for a chiller.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
