My new axie is about 2.5" so probably 2 to 3 months old. Today I gave him about 3/4 of a blood worm cube and 4-5 little salamander/newt pellets. I also have frozen mysis shrimp and am going to get some night crawlers.

How often and how much should I feed him? Is 3/4 cube plus some pellets ok? Or half a night crawlers and some pellets?

I think one blood worm cube a day is good. But if you're only feeding him 3/4, I think it is okay to add pellets too. However, it's probably unnecessary. Just check your axolotl's belly and make sure it is about the same size of his head and not smaller. If it is, he is being fed well. Although, your axolotl is only 2.5", so it may be hard to tell as juveniles have skinnier stomachs.

This is just what I have done with my axolotl, but try to get a second opinion. :)

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
