Firebelly with cloudy eye

My 18 year old firebelly has recently developed a cloudy eye. The rest of his body looks fine and he is eating fine, only difference is he is hiding more in his cave. He has never been visibly sick in the 18 years I had him so I don't know if this is infection or cataracts.
 
I also would like to know what causes this problem. One of my adult Tylototriton gets a cloudy eye from time to time, it's' been something she's had on and off since before she morphed and it's never spread to the other eye.

    with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

    Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

    Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
