Hello all!

I've been watching my beautiful six month old albino axolotl grow and I think she may have a small extra gill stock, but I'm not quite sure. She likes to hide a lot so I don't get many pictures of her face, but I was able to get this photo today. ( top right gill )

let me know what you think!

That also happen to some of my axie too. They're like branches that mostly grow out uncontrollably when the water conditions is very nice.

All perfectly normal. Some of my axolotls had their gills nipped by tank mates prior to purchase, and they have grown back branched.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
