I just joined the forum and am so happy to be here. I live in the US (North Carolina) and have 3 axolotls. I've had the oldest for almost a year. I have 2 pinks and one black. 2 girls and one boy.

I've never had any pets except for dogs. I saw an article about axolotls on the internet and I just fell in love with their little faces! I read everything I can about them and the more I learn, the more I am fascinated by them. And this is a great site for education and just for fun!

The oldest - Winston - started laying eggs yesterday and she's still at it. This encouraged me to join as I am sure I'm going to need all the help I can get. I'm pretty sure I won't be able to raise all of the hundreds of eggs she's laid so far. Wow!

Welcome! And congrats for new babies to come. I'll help with what I can , but the first question is that when you said pink axolotl did you mean albino or leucistic? And black did you mean black melanoid?

The 2 pinks are leucistic and the black is a black melanoid. Do you think there's a chance that these eggs are not fertilized? One of the pink leucistics and the black melanoid are girls.

No that's not what I meant but first time eggs sometime might not all hatch, still more than enough would hatch too. You need to separate eggs in to different tank ( or container) that's where you can incubating the eggs with air bubblur ,air bar, air stone, personally I put all my axie eggs in large incubation chamber ( same incubator that I use to hatch large amount of brine shrimp ) and once they hatch you have to have live food for them ready . Like new hatch baby brine shrimps (which is high nutrient ) , or micro worms ( not so high in nutrient) or daphnia (aka fresh water flea) . Axolotl babies might not need to eat in the first 2-3 days after hatched cause their belly still full of egg yoke so you will have time to get ready. :ufo:

If you success and want to start selling babies let me know , cause I'm looking for grey melanoid babies .

Thank you for the great advice. They are turning into little commas now. It is so amazing to watch.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
