Hi I'm new to this and hope somebody can help me. I got a small axelotl. got him a week ago. he is a albino. he will eat his food but later does spit out everything he did eat. I had him in a big tank that had sand and gravel in it. after I did read they could swallow the gravel I put him in a small tank with only sand in it. could he have a peace of gravel stuck in him and the food can not go through him.

Re: My axelotl

Can you post any pictures of him? Does his belly get fat and round? Is he having trouble moving/swimming?

Re: My axelotl

Can you see gravel shape in his stomach? If so move him in the fridge overnight to see if he can pass it ( cold temperature will help him poop)

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
