Hello
I'm Jasper!
I'm 18 and just got into amphibians, but I've had a long interest in replies. Recently someone posted in my colleges Facebook group that they had a dozen yellow spotted salamanders that needed homes, and I was willing to provide one. Two days, an Amazon order, and a trip to the other side of campus later I was the proud owner of a squiggly sausage about the size of my thumb.
I'm super excited to find the community online so I can give this lil guy the best chance possible in my dorm

Congrats on your new slimy baby!! I'm also 18, but I've had a lot of experience with salamanders and amphibians in general, starting from my time as a feral 3 year old practically living at the foot of the Smoky Mountains.
I've kept some spotted salamanders in the past, and I'm excited to see your progress with the little guy. Good luck!

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
