The first three pics in this thread are from August 8th when we brought Stelly home. He had short gills, a broken back left leg, no toes at all on the left side, a chunk bitten out of his tail and he fit in his 3" food bowl.

The last three pics are from last night, September 13th. His gills are long and full, his back leg is healed, he grew all his toes back, his tail is healed and he overflows his bowl!!! He's fat and happy!!! (Just still has that white tip on one gill from a few weeks ago.)

I'm so proud of my little guy!!!

Hahahahaha thanks! I'm trying to aim for "stomach as wide as his head" but does he look over all fat? Still has that white tipped gill too, but it's not getting worse and he's happy.

It's like looking at the before and after pictures on the diet commercial but backward :D

Aw so cute! You've taken good care of him. :)

Have you tried almond leaf extract yet?

No... do I get it from a health food store? What is the dosage and how long would it use it? What does it do?

Thanks everyone.

Catappa leaf aka Indian almond leaf is a popular product in any pet store that sell any kind of aquatic pet products. I ordered my online. I don't think health store for human has the same kind of product safely use for aquarium so I would advice to read the label for 100% Catappa leaf extract. If not extract , the whole dried Catappa leaf will do too ( it just make your water abit clear brown color while the extract doesn't )

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
