Hi. I've ad my two axies for a while now, and though we got off to a rocky start, they both started growing like weeds soon enough!

We've had a particularly hot summer in my neck of the woods, so keeping the temp down has been a real struggle, but we expect things to get better as autum comes. Don't kill me, but the temp stays anywhere from 69-72° F

So, I've had a little treasure chest hide for the axies for a long while now, and today I came home to find my chubby little girl, astrid, stuck! I free'd her pretty easily, gently applying pressure to her rump as her little hands clawed at the sand and she slid free. I put the chest on its side as I came to post here, to ensure she wouldn't try that again.

The aquarium lights are kept on only a small amount of time each day, usually no longer than two or three hours. They are still fed bloodworms, as they refused to eat nightcrawlers (chopped) when I offered them, even after a week long fast.

So, my poor little Astrid has cuts on her side and what may or may not be bruises? How do I make sure she gets better?

Also, YES, as I speak I am rearranging things a little bit and getting rid of that darn chest to make sure this won't happen again!:(

Axies don't realise how much they've grown! A tea bath can help sore skin, but cool clean water and good nutrition usually does the trick.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
