Is my axoltol sick? Earlier today I noticed some small white dots on one of my axies. They are on both sides of his belly. I am not sure how he would be sick if he is. The water temp is at 63 degrees, the ammonia and nitrite are at 0ppm, and the nitrate is at 20ppm. They do have VERY fine sand in half of the tank. The other half is slate and they always feed over top of the slate type surface to prevent any sort of sand consumption. Do these spots indicate sickness or am I just being paranoid?

Also I took this picture right before I spot cleaned their tank, so their tank is super clean!

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
